Martina O'Loughlin is a Hackney-based Irish artist and a graduate of Wimbledon School of Art.
I am attracted to subjects/reference material for compositional and dramatic effect. Sometimes the source is a tragic event, such as the Haiti Food Crisis, or the mundane - a man rowing his boat full of tourists or a bull watching on as men try to push a boat out to sea.
Currently, I am concentrating on the importance of leisure/play for the upkeep of one's sanity - motivated by my observations of people who have become withdrawn from life itself. In 'Springfield Park Lovers' - I created a woodland at dusk and placed a couple in, in order to provide a notion of adventure and an escape route from the humdrum of habitual routine.
